This Privacy Policy describes the use by the
City of Gilroy (the “City”) of any personal information that you may provide or
that the City may collect through your use of the website(s) located at www.mywater.cityofgilroy.org or
any successor site(s) (the “Website”). The Website seeks to help
water customers view their water consumption and to help utilities
conserve water use and reduce water waste. By using the Website, you hereby
give the City your express consent to use your personal information as
identified and described in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy.
What information does the Website collect?
User provided
Information -
The
Website collects the information you provide when you create an account or
otherwise disclose personal information. Registration with the City is
optional. However, please keep in mind that you may not be able to use some of
the features offered by the Website unless you register with the City.
When
you register with the City and use the Website, you generally provide your
name, email address, user name, password and other registration information.
You may also provide additional information to the City if you contact the
City. Further, you may enter additional information when using the Website,
such as contact information.

addition, the City through the Website may collect certain information

How does the Website
use the personal information collected?
The
City may use the information collected from you when you register, sign up for
our newsletter, respond to a survey or marketing communication, surf the
website, or use other site features in the following ways:
- To allow the City to
better service you in responding to your customer service requests.
- To send periodic
emails regarding your order or other products and services.

your consent, the City may also use the information you provided while using
the Website to contact you from time to time and to provide you with important
information relating to your water usage.
Do third parties see
and/or have access to information obtained by the Website?
Only
aggregated, anonymized data is periodically transmitted to external services to
help the City improve the Website and its service. The City will share your
non-aggregated, non-anonymized personal information with third parties only in
the ways that are described in this Privacy Policy. Specifically, the City may

- When the City believes

services providers who work on behalf of the City, do not have an independent

capacity as a water utility, is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of
all or a portion of its assets. In such a case, you will be notified via email
and/or a prominent notice on the City’s website of any change in ownership or
uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this

What are my opt-out
rights?
You
can prevent the collection of information by the City through the Website by
not using the Website. You can also request to opt-out via email, at mywater@cityofgilroy.org
How reliable is the
information provided by the Website?
The
City will make every effort to supply you with accurate conservation
information. The City gathers and aggregates this information from various
government agencies and departments continuously, but cannot guarantee that it
is accurate or timely. You should not solely rely on the Website for this
information.
Data Retention Policy;
Managing Your Information
The
City will retain user-provided data for as long as you use the Website and for
a reasonable time thereafter. The City will retain automatically collected
information for up to 24 months and thereafter may store it in aggregate. If
you’d like the City to delete user-provided data that you have provided via the
Website, please contact us at mywater@cityofgilroy.org and Utility will
respond in a reasonable time. Please note that some or all of the user-provided
data may be required in order for you to properly utilize the Website.
Children
The
Website is intended for use by individuals over the age of 18. The City does
not provide access to the Website to knowingly solicit data from or market to
children under the age of 13. If you become aware that your child has provided
the City through the Website with information without your consent, you should
contact the City at mywater@cityofgilroy.org. The City will delete
such information from its files within a reasonable time.
Security
The
City is concerned about the confidentiality of your personal information. The
City provides physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect
information it processes and maintains. For example, the City limits access to
this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that
information in order to operate, develop or improve the Website. Please be
aware that although the City endeavors to provide reasonable security for
information it processes and maintains, no security system can prevent all

specifically for residents of Gilroy; however, if you reside outside the United
States, your information will be transferred, processed and stored in the
United States under U.S. privacy standards.
